Counseling
The School Counselors mission is to help students focus on academic, personal/social and career development so they not only achieve success in school, but are prepared to lead fulfilling lives as responsible member of society.
We follow the Connecticut Comprehensive School Counseling model which is proactive and preventative in its focus. School counselors work with all students in grades 6th, 7th and 8th. As counselors, our goal is to provide, serve, develop and assist our students to help them meet success.
We provide:
- Classroom guidance lessons and activities for all students
- Individual and group counseling
- Information to parents regarding student’s academic, social and emotional development
- Crisis counseling intervention
- Orientation programs for new students to our school
- Information for students and their parents regarding transitioning to high school
Serve:
- As a consultant to staff and parents
- As a confidential listener
- As a member of the referral team, Planning and Placement Team, and crisis team
- As a liaison between staff and parents
Develop:
- Healthy peer relationships
- Orientation programs
- Engaging and interactive lesson plans for guidance lessons
- Methods of coping with issues of separation, divorce, death, loss, stress and grief
- Opportunities for students to meet with representatives from area technical and vocational schools
Assist:
- In referrals to outside agencies
- In appropriate course and program selection
- In monitoring classroom performance
- In resolving conflict between students
- In curriculum development
- In the process of high school applications and recommendations
